SS Scrap 300 series

These formulas are a popular choice for a wide variety of piping applications.

The SS 304, SS 316 and SS 316L Stainless Steel (SS) formulas are the most commonly specified. They feature the right mix of strength, weldability, corrosion resistance and economical cost. The stainless steel alloys resist corrosion, maintain their strength at high temperatures and are easy to maintain. They most commonly include chromium, nickel and molybdenum.

SS 302: Austenitic, non-magnetic, extremely tough and ductile, SS 302 is one of the more common chrome-nickel stainless and heat-resisting steels. SS 302 is also formed into all types of washers, springs, screens and cables.

SS 304: SS 304 is one of the most common stainless formula across industrial and consumer applications. This non-magnetic alloy is the most versatile and the most widely used of all stainless steels. SS 304 has lower carbon to minimize carbide precipitation and is used in high-temperature applications.

SS 316: SS 316 is similar in chemistry to SS 304 but also includes molybdenum. That addition makes it much more corrosion resistant. Like SS 304, the SS 316 formula does not require post-weld annealing. This alloy is recommended for welding because it has a carbon content lower than SS 302 to avoid carbide precipitation in welding applications.

SS 316L: Almost identical to SS 316. The only difference is the carbon content. SS 316L’s lower carbon content imparts even better corrosion resistance than SS 316. SS 316L does not require post-weld annealing.
